Purslane Hybrids with Pazazz - You Will Like These!

April 11, 2009 by Rick

Purslane - Portulaca oleracea are a favorite warm season tender perennial that are very popular throughout Florida. The new Pazazz series significantly upgrades the flower power. Find them now at most of your Florida Home Depots and you will have more flowers that stay open all day. Pazazz Purslane will make a great long lived 'SPILLER' item in combination planters for hot sunny spots. Pazazz Purslane is very forgiving so go on vacation and water it when you return and it will be just fine. Pazazz is available in the convenient Classic Selection 9 count trays and gallon containers in a variety of colors.

Pazazz is the first purslane that has flowers that stay open all day long and even open on cloudy days!

These patented hybrids were developed by a plant breeder in Israel for their extremely dry climate. Consider replacing some areas of thirsty turf with Pazazz.

Just bought a tray of the purslane at the Home Depot yesterday, to fill a container where another flower just couldn't hack it.  What a surprise to come out this morning to find vibrant pink flowers!  I'm tired of plants that can't hack it here in So.Florida so I have found your purslane, sedum hybrid and Livingstone Daisies to be a great addition to my containers - low maintenance, interesting & pretty plants and if I forget to water them once in a while, they don't mind in the least.

Wow, I bought two of these in Tallahassee over the Memorial day weekend and planted them in the perennial/butterfly Garden at the Hillsborough Extension office.  I didn't realize they were anything new, but their performance is amazing and they look fabulous.  I am REALLY impressed. I was wondering why they were doing so exceptionally well.  I have a planter at home that will be getting one soon!

There are a few differences from other Portulaca series than Pazazz which are more trailing (stringy).. The Pazazz are more compact and have an earlier flowering. What stands out significantly from the other Portulaca's is that they are highly floriferous and the flowers are wide open and not half closed. From our trials here in Israel they flower earlier in the season.
Another advantage is that the Pazazz are easier to handle ('package')and transport from place to place since they are more compact and less trailing (stringy).
The Pazazz once fully grown can be placed in half shade with no adverse affects.
Thanks for you interest, gretaly appreciated and please do not hesitate to ask any questions or any other information about the Pazazz.
