Garden Coaching in Florida

March 7, 2010 by Rick

Every day folks come in to shop at their Florida Home Depot Garden Centers and see beautiful flowers and wish they had some one to tell them how to get started. Many people would spend more time in their garden if they had a sense of what works where and why. The plant tags in the containers help but getting it right takes some trial and error. Gardeners of all levels use our Plant Database for details of where to place plants and how big they grow. When you see a neighbors garden flourishing you realize that that gardener has some real insight on how to select and cultivate plants. We call it Right Plant – Right Place to keep it simple as you learn how to select what will thrive and beautify your garden or patio.  If you don’t have time you may want to hire a Garden Designer to come in and draw a plan. purchase, plant and guarantee large and small plants. If you do have time and you want to get good advice and buy a few plants at a time, check out this link to a Florida Garden Coach. As I said, every day gardeners walk into Home Depot expressing a desire for some level of help with their garden.

Rick,
Gee... I'm honored you've practically reviewed my entire website. It's been a slow-go getting started but I have high hopes business will crank up a notch now that everyone's gardens are practically dead. That might actually work in my favor in a few weeks.

My other hope is that concept of coaching will be better understood ... your post is a good step in that direction to make folks aware of the service.

Big thanks again!
Meems (aka Cynthia Cay)

I am glad you are honored but you deserve the honor. Wait until they see you in action. Your spot on ideas + energy = results.

Rick, I've spent a lot of time getting information on your plant database! Do you know when the Orange Marmalade will be available in HD stores again? Also wanted to let you know that the new Florida friendly petunias I bought last year at your suggestion have been SUPER performers. They are still so covered with big, white blooms that you can barely see the leaves. They've been the brightest spot in my otherwise bleak winter landscape.

Meems, are you the Hoe and Shovel blogger? Love it.

Janna, I am so glad you are getting the results from the Ray and Littltunias. In years to come Florida gardeners will become fans of petunias again as the new hybrids now bring back the heat and disease tolerance of the old wild types. I am glad you get some ideas from my database. It is the result of a lifetime of learning and trial and error. The Orange Marmalade is in the stores now. It got a little frosted on the top leaves last weekend on the tables in the stores but fresh ones are arriving daily.

Rick, as usual for Saturday morning, I visited the Northdale Home Depot today. Still looking for the orange marmalade and bulbine. (I know you told me it would be awhile on the Brazilian red hots.) I saw someone examining your tables and took a wild guess - "Are you from Riverview Flower Farm?" Yes, I met Chuck. I was asking him about the marmalade, red hots, etc... and he was very nice and informative. (Although still no marmalade at that store.) I then said I was also looking for bulbine and although none were scheduled for that store, he brought me a couple from the truck. I was so happy to get them! Although I know this isn't normal protocol, I was very grateful to him and just wanted to let you know how helpful and nice he was.

Janna, Thanks for those kind words. We are so lucky to have so many great people like Chuck working with us at Riverview Flower Farm. I am glad we could help you. Orange Marmalade, and Brazilian Red Hots soon and lots of them so hold that spot.
