Purple Muhly Grass for All of Florida

MuhlyGrass

One of Florida’s most beautiful native plants and a Top 10 selection to grow in your garden, Purple Muhly Grass is available at most Home Depot garden centers now. Use it where it can get at least 6 hours of direct sun and in a place where you can see it dancing in the sun in all it’s glory. This grass gets about 4-5 feet across and 3-4 feet tall so give it plenty of room. Forget about the maintenance with this one as it takes care of it’s self. Should I repeat that? Use it to replace areas of thirsty, high maintenance turf where you do not need a lawn.

I always wonder why we don't see this plant used more often in residential situations. Maybe folks think it is unkempt?

It truly is a self-maintained plant with a stunning bloom unlike most of the grasses available in Central Florida.

I forgot to mention I've been able to cap off two sprinkler heads since I planted the front lawn last year. The sunniest area of the garden and it needs very little extra water with adequate rainfall.

Thanks for the link-back, Rick.

We only offer it at Home Depot when it is blooming. When it is out of bloom, a great time to plant Muhly, there are literally no sales for it. Unfortunately, that is true for most things we grow. Homeowners can't easily picture plants in their garden or have the impulse to buy them if they are not in bloom.
